James Edward Ezell
May 18,1951 - April 13,2023

EZELL, Mr. James Edward, We are sad to announce the passing of James Edward Ezell on April 13, 2023 at the age 72.

He passed away surrounded by family after battling cancer for several years. He is survived by Taka, his devoted wife of over 50 years. He is also survived by his three children, daughter, Cathy (and son-in-law, Bobby Thatcher); his two sons, Tony and Bobby; and his greatest pride and joy- grandchildren, Cameron and Carly. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Ezell (and sister-in-law, Maureen).

Jim had a large presence and a booming voice. He was a Cliff Clavin of knowledge ...everything from the migratory patterns of Canadian snow geese to the maternal origins of mitochondrial DNA.

Although he graduated college from Lincoln Memorial and received his Masters from East Tennessee State, he loved cheering for the Hokies. He loved nature... plants, insects, birds and animals. He was a park ranger during the summer when he lived in Tenn. He helped many a snake or turtle get across a busy road. He especially loved his family pets and granddogs. He was a great cook... Thanksgiving dinner was his favorite meal to prepare for a day of good food and family time. He mastered the perfect chocolate chip cookie.

He served time in his life as a professor of Biology, a Men's Sunday School teacher, a Bible Quiz Champion, church elder, soccer league coach and director, active parent participant in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, supportive sports dad and grandfather and the list goes on. He left his earthly life being told how much he's loved while listening to his favorite, The Beatles, playing in the background.

We love you Big Jim, loving husband/ dad/ grandfather/ brother/ friend. The family is honoring Jim's request for no funeral or service, but feel free to reach out to the family and share any of your favorite Jim stories and memories.
